Water's Edge is home to a beautiful 20-acre lake and abundant Florida wildlife. Please read and follow these important safety guidelines to protect our community, our pets, and the animals themselves.
Important Notice
Feeding wild alligators is strictly illegal, highly dangerous, and directly leads to the death of the animal.

Why Feeding Alligators is Destructive
- Loss of Natural Fear — Wild alligators are naturally cautious and stay away from humans, but handouts strip away this protective boundary.
- Increased Aggression — Food-conditioned alligators become bold and will aggressively approach docks, yards, and boats looking for food.
- Risks to Pets and Children — Bold alligators pose a significant threat to nearby pets and small children walking near the water's edge.
How to Prevent Accidental Feeding
- Manage Fish Scraps — Never throw fish carcasses, guts, or scraps into the water at boat ramps or docks — this constitutes illegal feeding.
- Do Not Feed Waterfowl — Avoid feeding ducks, geese, or fish in lakes where alligators live, as extra food attracts them and alters the ecosystem.
- Secure Trash — Keep garbage cans sealed near waterfront areas at all times.
- Please observe all posted signs around the lake, never approach, feed, harass, or act aggressively toward alligators or other wildlife, and always maintain a safe distance.
Florida Law — Florida Statute 372.667: Feeding a wild alligator is a second-degree misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail. Repeating offenses can escalate to a first-degree misdemeanor or even a felony with fines up to $5,000.
